Our purpose and history
Central Texas fire departments have been standing together since 1935.
Purpose
The Central Texas Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization devoted to advancing the interests, training, and cooperation of fire and emergency service organizations in Central Texas. Our purpose is to:
- Promote the interchange of experience and new ideas beneficial to fire departments
- Encourage cooperation between neighboring departments
- Stimulate interest in fire prevention, protection, and public safety in rural and urban areas
- Develop and promote standard practices in firefighting and emergency response
- Support the organization of new fire companies in unprotected communities
- Further the work of the SFFMA and the TEEX Municipal Fire School
- Promote public education in fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and safety
Our district
Membership is open to fire departments, fire marshal offices, emergency services districts, rescue and first responder organizations, and 9-1-1 EMS providers in Bastrop, Bell, Blanco, Bosque, Brazos, Burleson, Burnet, Coryell, Falls, Gillespie, Hamilton, Lampasas, Lee, Limestone, Llano, McLennan, Milam, Mills, Robertson, San Saba, Travis, Washington, and Williamson counties.
Since 1935
- August 20, 1935 · TaylorFounded as the Central Texas District Volunteer Firemen's Association.
- November 19, 1935 · CameronFirst Constitution and Bylaws adopted.
- 1937The Association begins meeting each May and October, a spring-and-fall rhythm it keeps to this day.
- 1942 · LlanoConstitution revised.
- 1953Chief Vernon Rucker donates the Rucker Attendance Trophy, beginning a long tradition of traveling trophies for attendance, mileage, and pumper races.
- 1984 · CameronName amended as the organization grows beyond its volunteer roots.
- 1987 · Burton & GeorgetownAnnual scholarship to the TEEX Municipal Fire School established, along with the Dale Sarter Memorial Fund.
- 2017 · LeanderStanding rules formalize the semi-annual Spring and Fall conventions.
- June 9, 2026After a first reading at the 178th Convention in Moffat, members adopt a modernized Constitution and Bylaws under the name Central Texas Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association, and the Association is reorganized as a 501(c)(3) public charity.
Officers
Officers serve one-year terms and are elected each Fall. Each Vice President advances one step annually, with the First Vice President elevated to President.
